Minister pays tribute to local heroes at Broome Fire Station

February 03 2025

On a recent visit to Broome Fire Station, Minister for Energy Hon Reece Whitby and Member for Kimberley Divina D’Anna were able to see firsthand the positive impact State Government support has in regional communities.

A highlight of the day was a first look at a retrofitted 1961 Bedford fire truck - given a new lease of life thanks to a Horizon Power Community Partnership. Repurposed and 'ready to spray,' the new water filter offers a safe way to cool a crowd.

The trip also provided the perfect opportunity for the Minister to thank Captain Phillip Leach and the Broome Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service for their unwavering service to the community.

On behalf of the WA State Government, the Community Partnerships Program provides $1.1 million every year to community organisations and initiatives that positively impact remote and regional communities.

As for the shiny new Bedford? It's now a community event staple at the popular Shinju Matsuri Festival, regular youth programs, McHappy Day, school visits, and more.

Horizon Power acknowledges the Traditional Custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.
