Denham Wind Turbine Replacement Project

April 23 2025

Project overview

The Wind Turbine Generation Replacement Project aims to replace aging wind turbines to maintain and enhance renewable energy contributions, ensuring a reliable power supply and supporting decarbonisation goals in Denham.

This project aligns with Horizon Power’s broader strategic objectives of sustainability and energy security. Of the four turbines currently in place, one is non-operational, and another is nearing the end of its operational life. The project will conduct a detailed options assessment, including:
  • Running the existing turbines to end of life
  • Refurbishing the wind farm
  • Installing a new wind farm
  • Replacing turbines with an optimised hybrid solution
  • Accelerating coordinated Customer Energy Resources (CER) uptake

Current energy supply

Denham's current energy supply is a hybrid system that includes wind turbines, diesel generators, solar panels, hydrogen technology, and battery storage, producing about 3,000 tons of CO2e annually. The project will use Horizon Power’s Community Energy Planning Framework, to ensure early and continuous community and stakeholder engagement to align solutions with local needs. Through community engagement, we promote collaboration and participation among residents, Traditional Owners, businesses, and groups, considering community aspirations, existing infrastructure, and factors like land and heritage.

Adopting our Community Energy Planning Framework approach, we invite the community to participate in exploring Denham’s future energy needs.
