Energy advice for small business

We know you're focussed on your business and it's hard to find the time to tackle your energy challenges.

That's why we're here to help.

Taking control of your energy use may be easier than you think

Small businesses are the backbone of regional Western Australia and the heart of our thriving communities. We understand that running a business here comes with unique challenges and increased energy demands.

Start with a business energy audit

Every business uses energy in a different way, so an important first step is to carry out an energy audit. This will help you to understand how your business uses energy, what's contributing to your bill and find opportunities to save money. While we recommend hiring a professional energy auditor for a tailored audit, we understand that it may not be practical for everyone.

That's why we're creating a free, easy-to-use DIY Business Energy Audit1. Your energy audit will recommend practical steps you can take to be more energy efficient, identify where energy is wasted and suggest areas for future investment that will save your business money.

Make these simple changes

Encourage your staff to get on board

Energy efficiency plans are more likely to succeed when employees are actively involved. Be sure to keep staff informed about any changes you are making and raise awareness of your energy use. You may find that the more engaged your staff are, the more they’ll support energy saving opportunities.

Investments that are good for business

When all the easy stuff has been done, consider investing in renewable and electric alternatives to deliver long-term, ongoing savings.

Track your progress with MyAccount

By registering for MyAccount, you can see how much energy you’re using and when your business is using it. When you implement new energy efficiency measures, you can monitor your usage regularly to see how these changes impact your energy consumption and bill.

For example, changing the way you use high-energy consuming appliances (like reverse-cycle air conditioners) will make the most obvious difference. When you change how you use a lower consumption appliance (like switching a washing cycle to cold water), it will take longer to notice a difference.

With MyAccount, it's easy to

  • Monitor your energy consumption
  • Get an estimate of the size of your next bill
  • Download your energy consumption data in 30 minute intervals
  • Get more energy insights if you’re trying to be more energy efficient or considering solar for your business.
