Understand how solar & battery works
Get to know your kWs from your kWhs. Learn why we may need to energy manage your rooftop solar from time to time or calculate your savings potential.
Know which questions to ask your installer
When you get a solar quote, it’s important to understand what’s included - and what’s not. The smart choice checklist can help you make an informed decision.
Apply for a building permit
You need a building permit for solar installations, unless exempt. So, check with your local Shire first. This ensures you meet all regulations before installing your rooftop solar system.
Get your solar ready reference number
Ready to connect? Great! You’ll need a Smart Connect Solar reference number. Your installer needs this to apply to connect to the network on your behalf.
Already have solar installed?
Get your system online
If you've recently installed or moved into a property with a Smart Connect Solar system, you'll need to connect it to the internet before it can start generating electricity.

Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme
If you’re eligible for a buyback scheme, you may be able to export your excess solar energy to the network and sell that power back to us. The rate you are paid per kW depends on the time of day your system is exporting energy into the network.
