Partnering with industry to deliver low carbon, energy infrastructure
The Pilbara Green Link is a proposed, nationally significant common use transmission infrastructure project. It's key to achieving an integrated energy grid and could offer industry the opportunity to:
- access affordable, large scale renewable energy for consumption; and
- support regional decarbonisation and the State Government’s 2050 net zero emissions target.
That's why we've partnered with the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) to deliver the Pilbara Green Link feasibility study.
Key milestones
Pilbara Green Link feasibility study
- large-scale renewable energy generation at the AREH site - approximately 270km east; and
- the Yandicoogina Creek Terminal (YCT) - about 100km from Newman.
Pilbara transition planning
The State Government's Pilbara Energy Transition (PET) plan aims to facilitate large-scale expansion of common-use transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara.
We've been tasked to activate transmission corridors, essential for new transmission infrastructure.
New transmission lines are expected to be funded and delivered by the private sector with support from the Commonwealth Government’s Rewiring the Nation Fund.
Australian Renewable Energy Hub
AREH is positioned as an independent large-scale renewable generation hub to provide renewable energy at scale.
Located on 6,500(km)2 site, 300km east of Port Hedland, it has the potential to be one of the largest renewable energy hubs in the world.
Integrating solar and onshore wind power, green hydrogen and green ammonia, AREH could achieve 17M tonnes of carbon abatement, producing 1.6mtpa of hydrogen or 9mtpa green ammonia.
AREH is supporting the Pilbara Green Link feasibility study through a joint feasibility study.
