East Kimberley Streetlight Replacement

Delivering safer communities and environmentally-friendly outcomes.

Overview

When the sun goes down, Horizon Power stands by our communities to deliver safer streets and cleaner, greener energy solutions.

The East Kimberley Streetlight Replacement project helped reduce shire electricity costs by converting traditional streetlights into energy-efficient smart LED streetlights. In addition to improving night time visibility, the new streetlights lights in Halls Creek, Kununurra, Lake Argyle, Warmun and Wyndham allow us to monitor outages, decrease electricity costs for local shires and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The project was delivered as part of Horizon Power’s $75 million Renew the Regions program, a WA Recovery Plan initiative aimed at creating jobs and improving services in the regions.

Working with communities

This project was the result of feedback raised by local shires on behalf of their communities.

It is the very definition of a ‘lightbulb moment’, a great idea with significant flow on benefits and we are very excited to have delivered this program of works to our Kimberley communities.

Supporting the local economy

We engaged local businesses and suitably qualified local contractors to deliver the scope of work and stimulate the Kimberley economy.

Together, we installed:

  • 262 smart LED streetlights in Halls Creek
  • 878 smart LED streetlights in Kununurra
  • 16 smart LED streetlights in Lake Argyle
  • 49 smart LED streetlights in Warmun
  • 245 smart LED streetlights in Wyndham

What does this mean for our community?

Horizon Power acknowledges the Traditional Custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.
