Horizon Power is urging people to take care around mini pillars, or green domes, which contain live wires that, if damaged, can be just as dangerous as fallen powerlines.

This year, we’re improving the way we inspect our network using new technology. In addition to some ground based inspections, we’ll be using a combination of drones, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft with advanced sensors to fly over our network and capture our network assets in high resolution.

Horizon Power has partnered with Telstra to transition Western Australia’s first remote mobile tower from an overhead power supply to a standalone power system (SPS).

Horizon Power is pleased to partner with Synergy and Energy Policy WA (EPWA) to deliver the Household Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES) pilot program. The program is a commitment under the Western Australian Climate Policy, announced by the State Government on Tuesday 9 November 2021.

Up to 50 more remote Western Australian properties will soon be powered by renewable energy as Horizon Power begins installations for its latest round of regional standalone power systems (SPS).

In late May, Horizon Power’s SPS provider, Boundary Power, commenced the deployment of the first 12 systems to properties east of Esperance, and expects them to be fully commissioned by the end of June.

Residents in the remote East Pilbara town of Marble Bar will soon be able to reduce their electricity bills, with the commissioning of a battery energy storage system to store excess energy from rooftop solar panels when the sun is shining.

Marble Bar is recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as Australia’s hottest town, at times recording temperatures of over 37 degrees Celsius for over 100 consecutive days, making it an ideal candidate for rooftop solar systems.

State Government-owned utility Horizon Power has recorded a $17 million net profit after tax in 2020/21, representing an increase in profitability of $8.1 million or 52 per cent from the previous financial year.

This strong financial performance was achieved without compromising on its commitment to its regional customers and remote communities. More than $40 million in COVID-19 relief payments and support measures were provided to customers, and a record $1.1 million was invested in regional community partnerships during the past financial year.

Horizon Power is forging ahead with renewable energy solutions for remote Aboriginal communities, with construction well underway on a solar farm and battery storage solution in Kalumburu.

Kalumburu is the furthermost permanent settlement along the remote Kimberley coast. It has traditionally been home to two distinct Aboriginal language groups, the Kwini (Kuini) and Kulari.

Horizon Power has awarded a major contract to a Kimberley builder to redevelop its Kununurra depot.

The project is designed to improve functionality and safety and enhance customer experience. It is also expected to futureproof the building for up to 20 years.

Horizon Power has awarded a contract to install and supply solar power for the Derby Hospital to West Kimberley-based joint venture partners, Generators and Off-Grid Energy and H&M Tracey Construction.

As a part of its $5.2 million Derby Solar, Battery and Smart Streetlights project, Horizon Power worked with the Western Australian Country Health Service (WACHS) to develop a renewable energy solution that will significantly reduce the hospital’s electricity costs.

Owners and operators of caravan parks and accommodation establishments across regional Western Australia are being urged to report electrical shocks and tingles from taps and appliances to reduce the risk of electric shocks.

Horizon Power is offering four-year apprenticeships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a Certificate III in Electrical Fitting or Engineering (Mechanical Trade)

The apprenticeships will include both classroom training and on-the-job experience. The participants will be supported by skilled and experienced supervisors, as well as Horizon Power’s internal Aboriginal engagement team.
